The first dives of the season should be prepared as soon as the outside temperature becomes mild and that of the water reaches 12 °. Here are some practical tips from the Federation of Swimming Pool Professionals (FPP) for a successful return to service.

Clean the pool

Start with a good brushing and cleaning of the cover in place. Then store it in a dry and well sheltered place. Remove the winter floats. Wash the plates and the copings, proceeding from the inside to the outside to avoid dropping the dirt in the pool water. Then store all the accessories used for winterizing your pool.

Check the pool equipment

Before putting the filtration system back into service, have your pump serviced. Check that the covers and the vents are closed. Also check the condition of the seals and the tightness of the fittings. Also make sure of the good condition of the filtering mass (sand, cartridge, glass…)

Open the pool valves

Play all the valve handles successively. Check the various connections when the water arrives. Return the electrical cabinet to service.

Connect the pool equipment

Close the various contacts and replace the fuses. Update the programming clock. Start the filtration. Finally, sweep the vacuum cleaner to clean the impurities from the water or start the cleaning robot if you have one.

Treat pool water

The starting treatment is done according to the state of the water. In general, for a restart, a "shock treatment" is necessary. Add anti-limescale if necessary. Balance the pH between 7.2 and 7.6, then introduce a high concentration of disinfectant. Do not hesitate to seek advice from a professional so as not to make any mistakes.

Cleaning of the swimming pool after its return to service

After returning to service, a swimming pool requires on average less than an hour of attention per week during swimming. Every 8 to 10 days, clean the water line using a sponge and a suitable anti-lime and anti-grease product. Regularly pass the landing net on the surface in a slow movement of S to avoid backsliding. Vacuum about once a week. Empty the skimmers regularly.

Swimming pool water analysis

Various testers give the level of pH and disinfectants to make the necessary corrections by adding a product or by simply adjusting the electrolyzer. Most disinfectants have an increased effectiveness at a low pH, from 7.2 to 7.6. In case of high pH, favor bromine. These analysis operations can also be carried out automatically with a home automation system adapted to the swimming pool. Some of these systems also make it possible to automatically introduce water treatment into the basin.
